Celebrating engineering excellence in aerospace and robotics by Pakistan’s leading student UAV team

Team Foxtrot, a student engineering team from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK Institute), has once again proved its prowess in aerospace innovation by defending its championship title in national unmanned aerial systems competition with their indigenously developed drone. The team’s success highlights the strength of student-led engineering innovation and the growing capabilities of Pakistan’s emerging technologists.
Rising Above the Competition
Team Foxtrot was crowned national champion at the Pakistan UAS Challenge, securing first place for a second consecutive year. The competition, organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and hosted at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, brought together top university teams from across the country to showcase their unmanned aerial systems (UAS) designs and capabilities.
The team’s indigenous drone designed, developed, and built entirely by the students excelled in both technical evaluations and practical flight demonstrations. These included detailed design reviews, autonomous navigation missions, and mission execution tasks that evaluated precision, stability, and safety performance.
Innovation in Aerospace and Robotics

Every aspect of the drone demonstrates Team Foxtrot’s engineering depth: from advanced aerodynamics and flight control systems to robust autonomous navigation and reliable payload management. Their design and execution reflect both rigorous research and real-world application potential.
The team’s remarkable flight performance included a flawless autonomous flight and precision landing, maximizing mission points and demonstrating sustainability, reliability, and ingenuity.
In addition to defending the national title, the team also earned recognition for safety and airworthiness a testament to the careful engineering and meticulous testing behind their drone’s performance.
A Legacy of Competitive Excellence
Team Foxtrot’s commitment to innovation dates back to its inception in 2018. Since then, the team has consistently competed in international and national UAS challenges, steadily climbing the ranks and setting benchmarks for student engineering excellence.
Their journey includes participation in prestigious events such as the IMechE UAS Challenge in the United Kingdom and other competitions that test autonomous UAVs under demanding operational conditions.
Impact Beyond the Competition
The team’s achievements reflect not just technical success but also a broader mission: to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, inspire future innovators, and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical engineering impact. Their work exemplifies how student-driven projects can contribute meaningfully to aerospace research, robotics, and autonomous systems development.
Team Foxtrot continues to serve as a source of inspiration for young engineers nationwide, demonstrating that with passion and perseverance, students can design solutions capable of competing at the highest levels and contributing to technological progress.
