What Is Pakistan's Largest AI Data Centre

For years, Pakistan’s digital transformation has been discussed in terms of internet access, software exports, freelancing, and startup growth. While these areas continue to expand, the country’s technological ambitions have often been constrained by one missing piece: large-scale digital infrastructure. That conversation took a significant turn this week when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Sky47 Karakoram-01, described as Pakistan’s largest AI-ready data centre and sovereign AI cloud platform. The project marks one of the country’s most ambitious investments in cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure to date.

The newly inaugurated facility has an initial operational capacity of 8.5 megawatts (MW), with additional expansion already underway. A second 5MW data centre at Port Qasim, Karachi, is expected to become operational in the coming months, while further expansion has also been announced. According to official statements, the project has been designed as a purpose-built, AI-ready Tier III/IV data centre capable of supporting cloud computing, high-performance computing, and advanced AI workloads.
